Diagnostics

Diagnosis is the key word for the therapists working at Physjo&Well. While symptomatic treatment may help, our mission is not to treat the symptoms, but to get to the root of the problem. This is why we make every effort to ensure that our patients know what is wrong with them and understand the situation they are in.

Diagnostic tests in physiotherapy

When you go to visit Physio&Well, be prepared to answer a number of questions about your general health and the ailment you are presenting with. This part of the visit is conducted in the form of a conversation, then we move on to the physiotherapy examination. The examination of the patient involves specific diagnostic tests to determine the likelihood of a specific dysfunction. They confirm a hypothesis or negate it, forcing us to look for another structure responsible for the ailment.

What tests are used for diagnosis in physiotherapy?

The tests we use are those used in orthopaedics and musculoskeletal traumatology by both doctors and physiotherapists. They are standardised and reliable tests. In their interpretation, we rely on scientific publications for their sensitivity and specificity.

Are diagnostic tests enough to make a diagnosis?

Diagnostic tests are one component of the examination of the patient. Many times, based on tests alone, we are able to quickly determine the cause of the ailment, however, we always complement the examination with an interview with the Patient (history) and sometimes with the interpretation of imaging studies, which the Patient has on media or in paper form. Only such a complete diagnosis allows a diagnosis to be made.

Can it happen that I do not receive a diagnosis at the first visit?

Yes, this can happen. Although it is not a frequent situation, it happens that in case of having incomplete documentation of the Patient, when there is a need to perform additional examinations or when diagnostic tests do not clearly indicate one cause of the ailment, we perform trial therapy, or we wait for the results of the examinations and only at the next visit we make a diagnosis. Our assumption is that it is better to make a diagnosis later - correctly - than quickly and erroneously.

Is a diagnosis necessary to start visits to Fizjo&Well?

Yes, this is the first and fundamental element of the joint work between Patient and Therapist. Even if the visits to the Physiotherapist are preventive in nature, we carry out a short, overview examination, through which we determine which elements we should spend more time on and which parts of the body are functioning properly. This ensures that patients know what the purpose of their visit is and what we are working on.

If you don't know what ails you, would like to "name" your ailment and not just explain your back pain with a sedentary lifestyle - come to Fizjo&Well. We will talk to you, examine you and explain what processes are going on in your body and what causes your unwanted pain to accompany you on a daily basis.
